We are stoked to announce that Kona Boys was selected by the readers of West Hawaii Today as the “Best Kayak Shop 2009”, this marks our eighth year of recognition and we just want to thank all of our wonderful customers that continue to support our shop. We pride ourselves in helping people enjoy Hawaii’s waters, providing quality equipment, information, service and aloha and feel blessed to lead a lifestyle that allows us to meet so many wonderful people and spend so much time doing what we love.
2009 marked the first full year of business for our “Beach Shack” location. If you haven’t checked it out, we have a little shack on the beach at Kamakahonu Bay Bay, next to the Kailua-Kona pier. We offer all kinds of beach rentals; from SUPs (Stand Up Paddle Boards) and Kayaks, to snorkel gear, beach chairs, and umbrellas. Kamakahonu Bay is super protected so it’s a great place for the keiki (kids) to play and a wonderful access to the coastline for adults that want to take a paddle or go snorkeling in Kona. We also offer Stand Up Paddle Board lessons from the shack for those who want to familiarize themselves with the new craze in water sports. It is an honor to spend time in such a historic place and to care for a beach that means so much to so many.
This was also a big year for our shop, we have expanded our retail to include a couple of new lines including more clothing from Hawaiian companies like Organik and Sacred Surf, more womens wear, bikinis, and all kinds of new organic cotton and bamboo Kona Boys private label gear. We continued to expand our offerings for surfboards working with local shapers like Kent and Mike Jacobs, Jon Lalanne, and Ted Kearns, and will soon be carrying Firewire Surfboards as well. We broadened our SUP quiver providing the Big Islands best selection in Stand Up Paddle Boards, new and used. We are continually learning and growing and have lots of great new products and services to roll out in the upcoming year.
Finally we’ve been working to update our website and to relaunch our online store. You’ll see that we have a bold new banner on the homepage which rotates to provide the most recent and interesting things going on at Kona Boys. We’re going to continue to post discounts and special offerings in the banner as well so check back often for the latest KB deals! The online store is starting to take shape, we’re going to keep it simple with just a few products available online. We will be offering KB limited edition (organic cotton and bamboo) tshirts, available only online, as well as the staple Rite Of Passage brand boardshorts, KB private label coffee, KB stickers and more, so keep us in mind for your island style holiday shopping or if you need a new favorite t-shirt.
